Run Scheduled: 5 Miles
Actual Milage: 4.11 Miles
Time: 43:47
Pace: 10:37/mile
I ran for the first time in a week last night. And it did not go well. According to my 10K training schedule, I was suppose to run 5 miles. Hindsight is 20/20, but I should have done 3 miles since I hadn't run in a few days.
It started out great. I felt like I was flying. When I hit 1.5 miles, I was way ahead of my pace from last Wednesday. It was a little cold in the beginning, but I warmed up pretty quickly.
I ran out 2.5 miles, and turned around to come home, and that's where the issues began. I was running into the wind the whole way. I usually don't mind it, but since it was 45 out, the wind was bitter cold. And then my one toenail started to hurt. I realized at this point that I pulled my sock on too tight, to try to prevent the zipper at the base of my running tights from rubbing against my heel. Shortly after, the spot where my thigh meets my butt started to hurt too. I decided to stop running at 4 miles to prevent an injury of some sort. I still had a mile to get home, and it didn't even occur to me that sweat + cold + wind = being uncomfortable. I fully understand why they give out heat blankets at the end of a long race. I was freezing by the time I got back to the house. I put on sweat pants, long sleeve shirt, socks and slippers, made dinner, vegged in front of the tv, and 2 hours later, was still shivering. I jumped in the shower, turned the heat up all the way, and eventually felt better.
Tonight, I have a 3 mile run and I'm so hoping it goes better than last night. I do realize though that everytime I have a bad run, it makes me appreciate the good runs even better.
And to end this on a positive note, I had run a local 5K on November 19th, and on the bib was a sticker for 15% off at North Wales Running Co., a local running store. There was no expiration date on it, so I called, and the sales associate said that it didn't expire. Hopefully, I'll get over there in the next few weeks to spend some money. If you're in the Philly area, definitely check them out. They were my first stop I made when I decided to start running. They answered all my questions, and got me fitted for my awesome Brooks sneakers that I can't live without now. And the owner is a Phillies fan, which is even better.
